Celebrate Global Tiger Day with the Minnesota Zoo on Friday, July 29th! Come join us at the Tiger Lair from noon-2pm to participate in tiger-themed activities. At 1:30pm, at both tiger exhibits, hear our Zoo Keepers talk about what it takes to care for a tiger and watch these powerful predators enjoy special enrichment items. With all-new graphics at our Tiger Lair exhibit, there’s plenty to see, touch, and learn.
Did you know that there are six living subspecies of tigers, but three subspecies have already gone extinct? We encourage you to help endangered tigers because there are fewer than 4,000 remaining in the wild. To learn more about the largest of all living cat species and to make a donation to help them, visit www.tigercampaign.org
And think about what YOU can do on global tiger day to make a difference! Here are some ideas:
- Spread the word! “Like” the Minnesota Zoo and Tiger Conservation Campaign’s social media pages and share posts about tigers with your friends.
- Race for tigers! Register for the August 27th Tiger Tracks 5K Race and Kids Run, held at the Zoo.
- Help save tiger habitat by making smart shopping choices. Learn more here.
The Minnesota Zoo is proud of its award-winning tiger program, which is dedicated to advancing tiger care, management, research, and conservation. Over forty tiger cubs have been born at the Minnesota Zoo since we opened in 1978! The Tiger Species Survival Plan (SSP), which coordinates the breeding of tigers in accredited zoos, was initiated here at the Minnesota Zoo in 1982 and continues to be coordinated by our staff. Since 2012, we have coordinated the SSP’s Tiger Conservation Campaign.
We hope to see you at the Zoo on July 29th to help us celebrate Global Tiger Day!
